I recently finished short story collections from J.D. Salinger and Roberto Bolano and fell in love with the short story like I never have before. I’m hoping to pick up Men Without Women by Hemingway soon but I am looking for suggestions of short story collections from famous authors who are more regarded for their novels. Any recommendations?

A modern collection, ‘Fortune Smiles’ by Adam Johnson. Also, his novel ‘The Orphan Master’s Son’ is wonderful.
Can’t really go wrong with two classics— Isaac Asimov’s “I, Robot,” and Ray Bradbury’s “The Illustrated Man!”

Annie Proulx is a master of American short stories. Like Larry McMurtry and Cormac McCarthy—if they could write women equal to their men characters.
