I tagged this nonfiction as both my examples are works of basically investigative journalism, but I imagine this could work in other genres.
I’ve recently read *The Big Short: Inside the Doomsday Machine* by Michael Lewis and *Nobody Would Listen* by Harry Markopolos and enjoyed them, with a few reservations. I’m looking for more books in the genre of a team of investigators realizing the nature of an impending Doom that people don’t, or won’t, recognize. I imagine there might be books about COVID like this, but really I just want some more books to scratch the itch.
Bonus points if it’s fiction or deals with a different financial crisis than 2008. I enjoy the narrative tension that comes from the mounting dread and horror as the impending crisis makes itself known, the numb shock and devastation when it comes, and the unsettled foreboding feeling that even though changes are made to “fix” the system, its reoccurrence is inevitable and can’t be prevented. Thanks for reading!
