Looking to expand my library with books I’ve not read, what do you all suggest based on some of my faves in the following categories?
SciFi: Children of Time and sequels, Dune 1-3, Pretty much all of Andy Weir, Jack McDevitt’s Percilla Hutcheons saga, Hyperion tetralogy, The Ferryman
Fantasy: Lord of the Rings and all associated writings, Sword of Shannara trilogies, Wheel of Time (even the “slog”), Bartimaeus Trilogy
Nonfiction: The Wager, Flowers of the Killer Moon, Empire of Pain

For non-fiction try Shake Hands with the Devil by Romeo Dallaire or Eastern Approaches by Fitzroy McLean
Sci-Fi
Starships Mage by Glynn Stewart
Scattered Stars by Glynn Stewart
Lost Fleet Saga by Jack Campbell
Honor Harrington by David Weber
Troy Rising by John Ringo
Fantasy
Riftwar Saga by Raymond Fiest
Elenium by David Eddings
Chivalry by Christian Cameron
Iron Druid by Kevin Hearne
For sci-fi, I suggest Becky Chambers’s Wayfarer series (starting with The Long Way to a Small Angry Planet).
Fantasy, try Magic Kingdom for Sale, Sold! by Terry Brooks. It’s not as well known as Shannara, but it was always my favorite Brooks series. Incredible world building. It’s also cute now, because in 1980, a million dollars would be a fair price for a fairytale kingdom
If you liked wheel of time and were happy getting the whole was through it , could try the Malzan books starting with gardens of the moon.
They are kind of wheel of time meets game of thrones.
Oh, you like the big big series. So, it’s polarizing, but Way of Kings is that type of extended world-building expanded-universe type thing.
But I highly recommend The Dark Tower for you. King does great, it’s got bones like Shannaras dnd style adventure group.
Tbh, your type of scifi is not my type, so I’m sorry I don’t have good recs there! Go to for a large solid series is The Expanse
