I just had surgery on my hand yesterday and will be home for the next couple of weeks. I am looking for a good read that will keep my mind occupied and entertained. I mostly read Fantasy sci-fi, romance, and thrillers. I recently finished the Murderbot diaries and loved it.
I would love to get into a new series, but I have been struggling to find something that holds my interest.
I’m open to any suggestions please send recommendations for books you love. Thank you so much!!

Wayfarers by Becky Chambers
Three body problem by Liu Cixin
Books of the Raksura by Martha Wells
If you enjoy *Murderbot*, there are so many excellent choices to get into.
Firstly, a great comp read to *Murderbot* would be *Activation Degradation* by Marina J. Lostetter. It has a lot of quirky humor, some really awesome sci-fi concepts, and honestly feels like what *Murderbot* could be if it were put in the hands of a writer who really wanted to explore more of the human condition. I vastly prefer Lostetter to Wells, but that’s my personal take. Lostetter has also written a fantasy series that begins with *The Helm of Midnight*, which is some high-concept fantasy that really pushes some awesome concepts.
If you want some of the humor of *Murderbot* but without the murder, *A Psalm for the Wild-Built* by Becky Chambers is an absolute treat. It’s another novella, so similar in length to most of *Murderbot*, and it has a sequel. Both are absolutely impeccable reads–not pulse-pounding, but hilarious and deeply moving at the same time.
If you enjoy genre-bending romance, *Calamity* by Constance Fay is a science-fiction romance mashup about a lady ship captain who falls for a handsome space-prince. It has a ton of action, a lot of good banter, and a couple of steamy scenes. I found it very entertaining, and there’s a sequel set for May.
Lastly, if you want a thriller-ish read with some sci-fi elements, I really loved *Dead Silence* by S.A. Barnes. It has plenty of action in it, but it also has some creepy horror and some great thriller elements. It’s one of my personal favorite books.
Good luck finding something to read!
Are you willing to give The Count of Monte Cristo a go? Best novel I have read ever. Everything in it but car chases (written in 1884)..
