I’ve had the worst two years of my life and have been very depressed. I’ve probably read the Twilight series close to triple digits over the past 2 years because I find them very comforting.
I enjoy the gloomy sort of atmosphere with the rain, forests, and rocky beaches. I also like how mundane it can be. For instance, the descriptions of Bella in the grocery store, cooking dinner, searching things on the internet, reading books all are cozy to read about and escape to.
I also like the romance (required footnote that I know their relationship is toxic and Edward is controlling etc) but I enjoyed the pining, the getting to know each other (midnight sun goes more in depth with this), and especially the meadow scene.
Some may disagree with me but I also find the stakes /fairly/ low in comparison to say, The Hunger Games, which is easier to digest for me right now.
Some other books that I’ve read and enjoyed in this period of my life have been:
– Pride & Prejudice
– The Song of Achilles (tho this one obviously has higher stakes towards the end and is more emotionally devastating than I usually can stomach when I’m depressed)
– The Gargoyle (same disclaimer as TSOA)
– The Secret Garden
– Because of Winn-Dixie
Preferably no death and no car crashes (unless briefly mentioned).
Absolutely no animal death, dogs or other pets being struck by cars, or rape/graphic sexual assault.
Thanks in advance 🙂
