My teenagers haven’t had the easiest life. This is partially my own fault, but I’ve turned my life around many years ago.
Their dad (my ex) has not turned things around in all this time and it’s affecting our kids on top of all the past damage we have both already done. Mental illness and drug addiction is the problem for both of us. He’s still at a point where he’s using and saying therapy is pointless, so I’m on my own as far as educating my kids about this. He’ll tell you he’s fine and just enjoying life, but he needs help 🙁
My kids do both have a therapist and I’m going to ask the therapists what’s a good book for them to read, but I’m also looking for suggestions from other parents. Are there any parents who can somewhat relate to my situation and found a certain book helpful for their kids? I’m seeing my kids struggle with depression and anger, so I thought maybe reading about this stuff might be helpful to them. Thank you for any suggestions.

I’m sorry you’re going through this. You are amazing for keep going and putting up with yourself!.
As far as books… there’s a lot books about depression i have read but i don’t know the ages of your kids… So two stories that would be good as a kid to know (involving growing up and parents) would be:
Coraline by Neil Gaiman: it’s supposed to be a horror with a movie and everything but it’s really not scary. Mostly this girl wanting to her parents to pay more attention to her finds another world with another mother and father and then realize that something is off about this said world and she wants her real parents back.
The little prince by Antoine de Saint-Exupery: It’s a well known little novella from the 40’s. It follows the little prince who visits various planets, including Earth, and addresses themes of loneliness, friendship, love, and loss. Despite its style as a children’s book, it really touches adulthood in such a beautiful way. This book got me into reading when i was 12 years old.
