I particularly liked the use of first person journal entries as a format for each chapter, and what I like most about Nao’s stories are how she connects her experiences to the writings of Proust and Dogen from a teenager’s worldview. I connect well with that, because I used to be a teenager, without much of a social circle, avidly reading into different philosophies and applying them/talking about them. I also loved the unique way each chapter alternates between protagonists, similar to 1Q84 which I also loved, but that isn’t too important in the recs I’m asking for.
Maybe any stories that also connect to Zen philosophy specifically, since I’m interested in how it’s portrayed in fiction and used to guide characters to overcome a conflict.
When I looked at recs for books similar to this one on this sub, they weren’t really quite in this vein of storytelling. I appreciate any ideas though!
