I’m looking for a book in which the characters are animals. The settings could be anything, I’m big fan of High Fantasy and Medieval world so something like that would be lovely. Or an adventure with characters or something else, I’m open for anything.
EDIT: I imagine the animals to be human-like but to be animals, for example a bear doctor, mice as a king, fox as a detective. This sounds so silly, but that was on my mind!

The Bees – Laline Paull
Brian Jacques’ *Redwall* series is what comes to mind if you’re looking for high fantasy with animals.
Your title is asking for fables and your post for novels. In reply to the title, *Jataka Tales*. An illustrated version would be nice; mine from Spider Books has pictures but I’m sure there’d be other editions that do as well.
Again responding to your title, leave the apostrophe out of it except when you’re talking about something belonging to animals. The lion’s roar, the lions are smoking weed; the toad’s death in quicksand, the toads who’ve invaded my bathtub, those animal’s behavior, those animals on the school crosswalk poised for attack.
I adore wings of fire, all the main characters (except for in dragonslayer a spinoff even then a dragon is a titular character being the first mc’s adopted brother) are dragons!
The humans are seen as less intelligent creatures by the dragons because of a language barrier and the world building is fantastic!
It was made for kids but trust me it has a ton of violence and blood that kids should not be exposed to.
LG Estrella has 2- Cosmic Delivery Boy has a Cosmic Guinea Pig, and his vampire series has a warrior raccoon.
Mrs Frisby and the Rats of Nimh is one of my all time favourite childhood books. It’s so wholesome and cozy.
The Chronicles of Narnia series is a classic with lots of animal characters. Especially the first 3 books (The Lion the Witch and the Wardrobe, Prince Caspian and to a lesser extent, Voyage of the Dawn Treader).
