Let me provide some additional clarification about what I’m looking for and why. At work, a new leadership regime is coming into place based on a smear campaign of the prior leadership. Essentially, a pathological culture was used to control narratives, control access to C-suite executives, and omit those with deep experience and knowledge. This is all gravity – meaning nothing will change this fact.

However, I do want to be able to reference a classic work that would immediately resonate with others as to what transpired and the potential consequences/risks. Animal Farm isn’t quite the corollary I’m seeking, but it’s somewhat akin to that.

Another example- Catch-22 describes hilariously, with a very cold dose of war reality, how bureaucracy can get out of control with lack of leadership, controls, and proper incentives.

Do any books come to mind that would be instantly recognizable to most that would describe this phenomenon of being careful who you trust based on disinformation and the potential consequences?

    1. “Nobody gets in to see the Wizard. Not nobody.” A pathological cult in the land of Oz.

Or, the Emperor’s New Clothes is a pretty classic story of what happens when you are surrounded by people who are afraid to tell you the truth.
