Hi,
I’m looking for (ideally) Sci-Fi books similar in style to Becky Chamber’s writing. I’ve also read Monk and Robot and am just about to start To Be Taught, If Fortunate.
I really enjoyed that they were easy to read/light, diverse without making it ‘the plot’ and focused on ordinary life and interpersonal relationships.
I used to read to escape and then reading started to remind me of escaping which is why I’m looking for light reading in particular – anything to make the transition back to reading enjoyable. So it’s also important that it’s not overly triggering.
Another example (not Sci-Fi) is True Biz – again the everyday interactions that build up to a story. Pretty much anything by Patrick Ness.
On the other hand, I found Gideon the 9th interesting but a slog/difficult read. So I’ve not finished the second book in the series. I’ve read most stuff by Phillip Pullman but again that requires more effort than I’m looking for.
‘The Power’ was well written and enjoyable but due to the triggers I had to bow out part way. I’m not into high fantasy.
Many thanks!
