I recently, for the first time, watched 2001: A Space Odyssey. Two things stood out: Firstly, it is a masterpiece. Secondly, it is so so so so slow. Movies like that would not fly today; extremely slow and long shots that seem to go on forever, a five minute intermission built into the movie, plenty of repetition etc.
That movie took a lot of patience to get through, but weirdly enough, I really liked that! And I feel like I want more of it. In today’s instant gratification, 15 second tiktok/insta reel fast-form content world, I don’t feel like I get to enjoy the satisfaction of slow burn entertainment with an amazing payoff.
As if books weren’t slow enough (compared to other media), can you suggest me a slow/slow burn book? Doesn’t have to be remotely related to the space theme or philosophical message of 2001: A Space Odyssey. And let me know if you enjoyed the slowness of the book, or if it too tremendous patience and effort. Thank you!
