What if books about bringing down the world order for a brighter future
Ideally looking for near future, sci-fi/super power, dystopia/utopia combined with mental health issues, and a love story that doesn’t take itself too seriously all while changing the world
* Good News From Outer Space by John Kessel. Mental health issues, near future (more like retrofuture, it’s written in 1989 and set in 1999), and a love story.
* The Broken Earth trilogy by N. K. Jemisin. These are *extremely* bleak, but there’s hope of creating something better.
* The Left Hand of Darkness by Ursula K. Le Guin. Whether there’s a love story or not is debatable. I’d say no, this is a close bond of friendship, but others may read it as romantic love.
* Ammonite by Nicola Griffith. The love story takes itself very seriously. But this is about changing the world.
* Amatka by Karin Tidbeck. Mental health issues, love story side plot but it’s largely offscreen.
