I’m doing a rewatch of the reboot of One Day At a Time (the most criminally underrated sitcom of the past decade in my humble opinion) and it’s making me want to learn more about this period of time. My best friends mom was also part of Pedro Pan, so I’ve been a little bit around Cuban culture and I love it. I really only know about Cuba post communist revolution though, and I’d love to read more about what it was like prior to or in the lead up.
I’d love a book written by a woman and/or featuring a female protagonist too, but that’s not as important as the content itself. Thank you so much in advance!

Next year in Havana by Chanel Cleeton
Three Trapped Tigers by Guillermo Cabrera Infante. It’s a little weird, but really good.
