Unfortunately I can only read books that are first person which limits me! I typically read psychological thriller, horror, and am open to other genres!
The kite runner, the handmaids tale, the Martian, project Hail Mary, kitchen confidential, fever pitch, shake hands with the devil, motorcycle diaries

The *Dresden Files* are fun, but beware – they are written as a pastiche of hard-boiled detective novels, so the protagonist can come across as a sexist pig (it’s tongue-in-cheek, but the way he sees women is very male-gazy).

The Laughter by Sonora Jha is a recent one that comes to mind.
Not for the faint of heart. You will feel uncomfortable and have your biases challenged. The narrator/mc is a piece of shit scumbag and I wanted to scrape my skin off being in his pov.
That being said, it’s my book of the year thus far. It was fantastic. I would never read it again though lol

The Secret History. It’s one book I think deserves ALL the hype.

*Bobiverse* series is fun scifi
The *Thursday Next* series is just a madcap delight. If you only read books in the first person, you’ll probably, I’ll admit, miss out on a lot of the literary references, but, imo, it’s still **very** good without those
*Theft of Fire* is scifi, and extremely page turning
*The Martian* and *Project Hail Mary* are also scifi, and, like TOF, have a lot of “irreverent grit,” the protagonist keeps facing challenges and figuring out clever ways to overcome

The first ones that come to mind are the [Pentecost and Parker](https://app.thestorygraph.com/books/eb8c7ae9-41b0-442b-b3f1-8e01870fe219) series by Stephen Spotswood
