Not so much anti-hero, who are defined by their *lack* of heroic qualities, but as an actual hero forced to do one/multiple horrible things for the greater good.
I’m really looking for a hero having to grapple with their conscience. Something that weighs on them where they have to tell themselves that they had no choice or that it is a necessary sacrifice.
An example would be an undercover spy needing to kill someone so that they can gain the trust of a very bad person who could kill thousands if not stopped.
No real preference on genre as long as the story is good but I tend to lean more fiction/YA if that helps.
Bonus points if it’s also an audiobook!

11/22/63 by Stephen King. It’s about a guy who has to go back in time and kill people so that JFK doesn’t get assassinated.
