I have no particular interest in birds, or birdwatching, but reading this book was quite a revelation. The way Baker perceives nature, raw and naked without any hint of romanticizing the cold logic of survival, it starts to reveal something about life and our place in it that few other authors accomplish. Reading it I felt it ran a chapter or two too long, but now in hindsight, I wouldn’t want it to be any shorter.
I really enjoyed it, and can highly recommend it as it has carved out a niche of its own in my mind. Really curious to hear what other people thought of it, and what you found to fill that peregrine-shaped void in your mind after reading it!
