I like reading non-fiction books about a country to learn more about its people and places and to better understand why it turned out the way it did.
Closest analogue I can give are Tim Parks books on Italy e.g. Italian Neighbours which teach you a lot about the countries history, people and ways without being too dry or heavy on detail for a casual reader.
So a book like that but instead for Austria would be nice.
