I’m looking for a book that is **imaginative in a kind of cerebral way**. I’d list Cloud Atlas, Piranesi and Calvino’s books as falling into this category.
But I **don’t** want a book that is cerebral **to the point of feeling like a writing exercise or a philosophical treatise**. For example, something like The Name of the Rose isn’t what I’m after.
I also **don’t want anything too dreamy**. For example, I wouldn’t put The Night Circus or Stardust into the category of what I’m looking for.
I’m also **not looking for hard sci-fi or fantasy**.
Also please well written and engaging.
