    2. King Rat is so well written probably the best prison novel . By the man who wrote Shogun.

    3. The Dortmunder series . How many ways can competent thieves screw up their crimes . The Robert Redford movie The Hot Rock is a Dortmunder story

    4. Into Thin Air by Jon Krakauer.

If he likes words and language, how about The Mother Tongue by Bill Bryson? It’s about the English language. Very entertaining.

    6. merriam-webster has quordle: 4 wordle games simultaneously. And also Octordle: 8 wordle games at once. From personal experience, they’re addicting.

    7. If he’s into fantasy, The Way of Kings by Brandon Sanderson is both very readable and about 1000 pages. It has three sequels already out and another coming later this year. If he’s got time to kill, these would be a great way to do it!

If he’s got the time, might as well try out The Wheel of Time! I haven’t ready it yet, but it’s apparently a classic in the fantasy genre

      Have you considered audiobooks?

**World War Z** by Max Brooks has a truly magnificent voice cast.

**The Martian** by Andy Weir I have only read in book form but I’ve heard good things about the audiobook.

Both are shorter, riveting books in either way and I like the covers..

Wishing your son a speedy recovery and joy and distraction in whatever he decides to read.
