Douglas Adams written his massive story from Vogons being Vogons to KritKrit playing their games across the universe…
The Hitchhikers Guide to the Galaxy is in my opinion, one of the best and probably most comedic reads I’ve ever had. 😆
And holy cow, the way Douglas written his technology and cultures, it’s just perfect!
It’s both the most powerful Sci Fi setting ever and well written at that too.
But what do you think about the Guide as a Sci Fi novel? Good or bad?

Civilizations in Hitchhiker’s Guide are powerful in the same way that Toons in Who Framed Roger Rabbit are powerful. It’s a comedy, so they can do anything as long as it’s funny.
I don’t know if it was because I’ve listened to the audiobook, or because I don’t generally like comedy, but I wasn’t a fan of the book.
I started it thinking I was going to be blown away, but the whole experience was lacklustre at best. But then again, I went in knowing nothing about the book and I had no idea it was going to be a comedy or I wouldn’t have started it. So mind of my fault for reading something that was not my cup of tea.
However, I can think of more powerful sci-fi settings. “The left hand of darkness” and “I who have never known men” are the first two that come to mind.
I love DNA’s work, but the science-fiction is incidental to the story of HHGTTG. His writing style was to jam in any old throw away thing to meet a deadline, and then to expand and explain it in a humorous way in the next episode.
