Dear bilingual friends, (I love redditors so much!) I’m sure you can help me with this. I’m bilingual in Spanish but it’s been years since my brain has to do the work of actually thinking/processing in Spanish.

I thought listening to audiobooks in Spanish would help, but most of them are translations of original English text and as such I find myself focusing on things that don’t sound right, then translating back into English and finding a common expression that doesn’t have a common Spanish counterpart, so I keep going back-and-forth from English to Spanish in my brain instead of staying in Spanish. Does this make sense?

I would love to read some popular modern Latin/Spanish/Chicano authors that are big enough to make it into audiobooks and big enough for these audiobooks to make it into Libby. Surprisingly hard to get good ideas on Google. Any suggestions? I don’t even care about the subject matter, I just want it to be written in Spanish by a native speaker not translated from the English into Spanish. Halp!
