I used to really love reading romance novels when I was a teenager, but adulthood took away a lot of my free time and then other hobbies got in the way. I recently started getting back into reading. A good friend of mine has been recommending book series like Mafia Wars, Lunar Bride, Baton Rouge Vampire, Dark Fables: Vicious Faeries, and Stoneridge University.
I *liked* most of them, but I think her tastes are a little too spicy for me. Like Stoneridge, for example, was very triggering and I had to put it down after a few chapters. I do like romance and smut fiction, but I prefer romantic content that’s on the sweeter side. I’m wondering if anyone has any recommendations for maybe a historical romance with an arranged situation, maybe enemies to lovers *without* such heavy degradation as the previous books, or a more Tristan and Isolde type of forbidden romance.
Big bonus if the heroine is in their later twenties to early thirties. I also really prefer it if the characters fall in love because they mesh well together, and not because the girl is more pure, more edgy, more XYZ than other girls around them. Aside from the triggering content of Stoneridge, I really disliked what a pick-me the main character was.
