I did not like Women in Love by DH Lawrence because the focus of the book was all over the place and the writing style became too roundabout for me, but it has lot of things that I do normally enjoy in stories.

I was really drawn by the two men and the two women and their complicated relationships with one another, the dialogue banter was great.

I love books with characters that challenge one another and yet are inexplicably drawn to each other despite these differences. Gerald and Birkin’s relationship in particular was quite fascinating to me, the repression of feelings and the getting close/pushing back, Gudrun and Gerald as well, the ambiguity of Gudrun if she actually loved Gerald or if it was just tolerance. Ambiguous emotions like that are a huge draw for me.

The dialogue between them when it wasn’t some sort of ploy at shoving more social/world critique was really good and DH Lawrence does write in a beautifully unique way. If I could find something with his level of prose/turn of phrase and dialogue writing but just… DIALED DOWN a bit, so that’s it’s still purple but more intelligible and concrete with its theme, I would love that. Thank you
