Here’s some thing that hopefully will help you recommend something to me.
-I’m looking for something either pure fantasy. By pure fantasy I mean not a hybrid of sci-fi, or horror. I’m into several sub-genres, be it medievil fantasy, urban fantasy, epic fantasy, high fantasy etc.
-I’m a LOOOT more focused on characters, atmosphere, and intense moments. I usually like to read something with a lot of combat, although I’ve loved several combat free novels that I’ve loved. My favorite book is probably Dark Matter by Blake Crouch
-I’m not big on world building and lore, and too much of it, especially early on kills a book for me.
-I need the my books to be consistantly well paced, it doesn’t need to be a constant roller coaster, but It can’t be slow either.
-I have a VERY hard time reading something over 500 pages, and Brent Weeks and Brian Mclellan are the only two authors that have gotten me to finish a 600+ page novel. The sweet spot is somewhere between 250 and 450 pages, with 550 pages tops if the book is really fast paced and a lot of action.
-Some things I love in fantasy are really interesting magic, and magical assassins. I also love really clever characters that outsmart their opponenst, especially if they don’t realize that they’re clever.
**Some of my faves are** Dark Matter, Poster Girl by Veronica Roth, The Way of Shadows, Tress of the Emerald Sea, Nevernight, Sins of Empire, and Nine Princes In Amber.
Some books I enjoyed from 2023:
The Sword Defiant
City of Nightmares
Tress of the Emerald Sea
**Ebony Gate** by Jula Vee
I’m also currently reading The Adventures of Amina al-Sirafi. 1/3 through the audibook, and it’s Tress of the Emerald Sea level good!
I also want to read Bonesmith by Nicki Pau Preto, Godkiller, and Fourth Win from 2023.
Oh, and I do immersive reading, so I need something with a decent audiobook.
