When I was younger, back in the 90s, I lived in a shared house with a guy and a girl (not a couple.) I was reading Hi Fidelity by Nick Hornby, and she was reading Bridget Jones’ Diary. She saw me reading in the front room, told me what she was reading, and said “want to swap when we’ve finished our books?” I agreed, so got to read Bridget Jones, which I quite enjoyed to be honest.
So it worked out well for me. Ah those were the days, books for boys and books for girls lol. I haven’t re-read Hi Fidelity, as it was a bit zeitgeisty if you see what I mean. I know vinyl is making a comeback but the characters in the book were like people I’d met in record shops (I was always a vinyl junkie!) and I’m not sure they still even exist.
