Hi everyone! I have been searching for a book talking about children being abandoned by a parent whom they have never met, for years and have struggled to find anything!
A little insight, my mom had me when she was 21. My biological sperm donor (as I like to call my biological father) left before I was born. I have never had any contact with him (due to his doing, I have since learned that for years my mom begged him to come and visit me just once), up until a few years ago when he reached out to me on Facebook wanting to “Just crack open the door and put a welcome sign on it”, a few days before my 27th birthday…
Since then, I have left the message on read and haven’t responded. For now, I am not open to a relationship with him. My mom has always been my best friend and she had to deal with a lot of difficult stuff raising me as a young single mom. I harbor a lot of anger towards him because of what he put my mom through. However, receiving that message from him has opened a world of daddy issues that I never realized that I had… Both my therapist and I have been searching for books talking about dealing with parental abandonment of a parent you never knew. There are TONS of books on parental abandonment, but most have to do with knowing the parent and they abandon the child. I have also found some books on paternal death before being born, so the child never knew their father. However, again, it is very different than my situation (and a situation I know for a fact tons of other people have dealt with).
I am having a hard time finding anything on grieving abandonment by someone you never knew.
Any suggestions would be much appreciated! 🙂
