sent for a used high school “chemistry” textbook for like 12 buck. Planned to read some of it to understand differences between various chemicals.
I read every page cover to cover and was actually dumbfounded and shocked by most of the book. I could write a hundred things that surprised the crap out out me… here are some random things:
There is more than one salt its not just sodium chloride!
There aren’t just about ten metals ie, tin, aluminum, silver, etc… there are 91 metals.
Calcium and potassium are metal!
The law of entropy
Helium was discovered on the sun before it was discovered on earth!
That was done with spectroscopy, a way if seeing a type of “bar code” for everything in the universe.
The “types of atoms” that make up our molecules aren’t that much different than plastic, gasoline or alcohol.
Anyway, turns out chemistry is the gateway science to the other sciences of physics and astronomy and now I view the world very differently than I used to. That book had far more impact that any fiction or biography that I’ve read, because its real and I use that knowledge “every day”!
