Hello!
I am looking for a book to scratch the itch in title. I am thinking of something that would fit with the depiction of the wizard pondering his orb meme. I‘d love to read a story about a wizard getting deeper and deeper in his studies, possibly losing his mind and/or humanity in the process.
I thoroughly enjoyed Susanna Clarke‘s novels and Trudi Canavan‘s Black Magician Trilogy. A similar setting and tone but darker would be appreciated. I would prefer the style of the book to be serious, without too much, if any, humorous relief.
Descriptors like dystopian, kafkaesque, lovecraftian or even soulslike, with regard to the despair of the Dark Souls lore are what I am craving.
