These would be books for me to read to her, not solo reading. She really liked the first 4 Little House on the Prairie books, Narnia is good, she liked the first Harry Potter but the prose is a bit too dialogue driven and I think most of it went over her head. There are plenty of age appropriate books and we read short picture books as well, but I’m looking for short novels that have some literary value. I legit cried at the end of the 4th little house book and I am a full grown man.

Check out The Enchanted Forest Chronicles series by Patricia C. Wrede! Four-book completed series. The first book is “Dealing With Dragons.” It’s a fantasy adventure story that plays with fairytale tropes in a way that’s fun for both kids and adults.
