Hi everyone, I am looking for some suggestions on books which have an otherworldly, immersive, dreamlike (or nightmarish) writing style. Poetic language, something different, I love horror but it doesn’t have to be scary. I love when I finish a book and have to start it immediately again because I can feel it clicking off a bunch of new ideas in my head. I also love the juxtaposition of the content being so out of the norm but touching on fundamental human elements so that it feels simultaneously challenging and familiar. I love New Weird, horror, sci-fi and books which kind of defy genre.

Books I would put in this vibe that I have already read and loved:

+ This Is How You Lose the Time War by Amal El Mohtar and Max Gladstone

+ The Salt Grows Heavy by Cassandra Khaw

+ Down Among the Sticks and Bones by Seanan McGuire

    + Annhilation by Jeff Vandermeer

+ The Scar by China Mieville

    + Blindsight by Peter Watts

+ The Six Deaths of the Saint by Alix Harrow (short story, still gave the same feeling)

I’m tempted to include Becky Chamber Monk and Robot series and Nghi Vo’s Singing Hills cycle but they are almost too cozypunk to fit the vibe perfectly (they capture the writing style and immersive qualities, but they don’t give a challenge if that makes sense?) Looking forward to hearing people’s ideas!
