I almost exclusively read non-fiction, but I am getting a bit tired of it and I want to explore more fiction. I tend to enjoy a good mystery, horror, or sci fi story (in general), but I am open to much more than that. I’m pretty well-versed in the classic literature, so I am looking for something a bit more contemporary.
Some things to avoid: romance, YA, anything with vampires.
Modern authors I really really dislike: Ernest Cline, Dan Brown, Sarah Addison Allen (but to be fair to Allen, I might just dislike magical realism).
Any suggestions?

Under the Skin
Like you, I read almost 100% nonfiction, and I didn’t even realize until I got a book tracker two years ago. I always used to say, “Oh yeah, I love sci fi and fantasy!” when asked. It turns out, I do not love those things. I love dense economics and political philosophy.
So, here is some of the fiction that broke through by nonfiction walls and that was easy to read and enjoyable:
* Hidden Pictures by Rekulak
* The Raven Tower by Leckie
* A Memory Called Empire by Martine
* Devolution by Max Brooks
* The Rage of Dragons by Winter
* The Maidens by Michaelides
* And of course, the Murderbot Diaries by Wells
