Books I’ve loved: Blue Highways (William Least Heat Moon); On the Road (Kerouac); A Walk Across America (Jenkins). I don’t think these are a single genre, but they all satisfy my lifelong powerful desire to just ramble through places and meet people… see a slice of life… somewhat randomly. Definitely NOT travel books in the sense of recommending itineraries, etc. Are there other books old or new, fact or fiction that might scratch this itch for me?

You probably already know about Bill Bryson but on the off chance you don’t, his are a must for travel writing.
