    The Midnight Library,

    The Road,

    Fahrenheit 451

I love to read and I really want to read them all. But I need to choose one. What did you like or dislike about the books?
    Is it a complicated read?
Would it be doable to write an analytical essay on these?

    2. None of them are difficult reads from a reading level perspective imo. You can write essays on any of them, if nothing else complaining about how you thought the book was a waste of time and potential.

The Midnight Library reads to me like twee feel-good book club fiction that doesn’t actually explore its premise in any meaningful way. Quick, easy read. If you like Hallmark movies go with this one.

The Road is heavily stylized and definitely more literary, but has a few short instances of exceptionally graphic/disturbing content. There’s a lot to talk about in terms of prose and themes, but you have to work for it. This would be my pick.

It’s been a very long time since I read Fahrenheit 451. I remember it being….fine? (I don’t actually remember much of it at all other than it being a fairly quick and easy read.) There’s plenty of material for an essay. Of the three, it’s probably the most solid choice being an accessible, well-loved classic that makes some interesting arguments.

I would suggest 1984 or The Road. They are both excellent books. The Road has a dark adventure feel. 1984 is a psychological feeling book. I’ve just read The Midnight Library and found it disappointing.

If you like the Road you might also like:

Dead Man’s Walk by Larry McMurtry

      Comanche Moon by Larry McMurtry

      Lonesome Dove by Larry McMurtry

      Blood Meridian by Cormac McCarthy

If you like 1984 you should try:

      Animal Farm by George Orwell

The Road to Wigan Pier by George Orwell

The Children of Men by P.D. James

Brave New World by Aldous Huxley

      Blindness by Jose Saramago

      Fahrenheit 451 by Ray Bradbury

Crime and Punishment by Fyodor Dostoevsky

If you like The Midnight Library:

A Christmas Carol by Charles Dickens

    4. English teacher here- I think Fahrenheit 451 is the best choice. It’s pretty accessible, has a lot of avenues you can explore in an essay, and isn’t ‘basic’ (Midnight Library) or disturbing (The Road).

I’d do The Road if I was really into the assignment as it would be challenging and hopefully give me more to work with to get an A

I would take Fahrenheit 451 if I just wanted to get it done and not have to dedicate much time to it.
