I’ve been trying to get back into reading, and want to find something that resonates with me like the Hunger Games trilogy and The Ballad of Songbirds and Snakes did. Specifically what I like about those books is the social commentary about capitalism and fascism. I want to read something unafraid to have a deeply political message. I don’t like other series in the YA dystopian genre that tried to capitalize off the success of the Hunger Games like Divergent, because they lacked the depth and the heart of the message I feel that Suzanne Collins was trying to convey. I’d prefer something more adult oriented. Something about rising up against systems of oppression. Something that delves into the psychological impacts of living under fascism.
I’ve seen some people recommend Fahrenheit 451 to people who want a more adult dystopia, and I have read and very much enjoyed that one. Anything similar to that is also welcome as a suggestion.
