I’m at a loss. “The Poppy War” has a 4.17 on Goodreads and I just don’t get it. At 50% I am considering putting it down, but I feel like I’m missing out because it is so popular. When does it get good?
I’m finding it boring with a very unlikeable main character. She is incredibly whiny and immature, and her attitude doesn’t match her age. 50% through the first book and she is around 17 years old, but I keep thinking she is 12 or 13. People love these books and so far I just don’t get it. I want to like it, but I just don’t see a reason for an author to take 250+ pages to get the story going.
Someone tell me I’m wrong!

If you do a search you’ll find oodles of posts saying the same.
50% through and not enjoying it then just DNF. Life’s too short
At 50% if it’s not your cup of tea def dnf and save yourself the brutality in the second half. I thought there were elements of the book that were good but over all was underwhelmed given how much good I’d heard before reading.
