I fell in love with Krakauer’s writing style and read everything he wrote. Then I found David Grann and read his entire library as well. The things I really like about their writing:
1. They write like journalists. I have a degree in history and have read LOTS of history books, but I have always found that journalists like Grann, Krakauer tell better stories.
2. The end of the story is told right away. What would normally be a big twist is usually in the description of the book (the death on Everest, the shipwreck of the Wager, murders of the Osage). The story is not told chronologically and lot’s of OTHER stories are weaved into the narrative.
Any suggestions would be great. I can’t wait around for those 2 to release new books.

Max A. Collins and Erik Larson might be what you are looking for. “Devil in the white city” in particular.
