Tagged trigger warning as some content I ask for or discuss may be sensitive to people who have suffered verbal or physical abuse or are struggling with mental health.

Hi everyone. So I got a library card and I’ve been looking for some books on things like trauma and mental health and recovery. I’m currently reading Stephanie Foo’s memoir What My Bobes Know, which I’d recommend, though not if you’re sensitive to descriptions of verbal or physical abuse. I’ve also checked out Journey Through Trauma and The Anatomy of Anxiety. Does anyone else have any good mental health books, biographies from trauma survivors, or just self actualization in general? Would really appreciate it!

‘so-called normal’ by mark henick (would recommend his ted talk, ‘why we need to talk about suicide’, as well)

‘let’s pretend this never happened’ and ‘furiously happy’ by jenny lawson are also memoirs about mental health that use lots of whimsy and humour, if you want something uplifting. ‘furiously happy’ might be more up your alley, based on the description, but personally i think both books are great
