I just finished Here In The Dark by Alexis Soloski and really enjoyed both the overall book and the main character. A former actress turned theater critic, she attempts to solve the mystery of a disappearance and greater conspiracy, all while struggling with a growing dependence on pills and booze.
I'm looking for characters that have similar struggles, addicts that still manage to make their way through the plot of the book despite their worsening dependence. I don't want the addiction to be the main plot, but rather a side story that follows the character or characters.
