I really hate the cliches of "you can do whatever you set your mind to" & similar inspiration porn.
I'd like some books where the protagonist tries as hard as they can to achieve something and fails – and not in a "well I failed but I ended up learning a greater lesson" way. I want pure failures that are thought provoking and fun to read.
The only examples I can think of that fit this criteria are historical fiction. I'm looking for fiction books but not historical. Fantasy would be great.
