Hello everyone. I've been in a bit of a reading slump and I've been in the mood for reading something that hits close to home. I'm primarily looking for books in the Horror and Thriller genre, with topics like loneliness, helplessness, depression, anxiety, etc. Something that will absolutely rip me apart with either its' dark themes or horrifying psychological warfare.
A couple of examples to base your suggestions off of:
- 1984 by George Orwell. It might sound a bit … vanilla to you but when I say this book devastated me, I mean it. It was like reexperiencing my worst bout of depression.
- In terms of scare or shock value, Misery by Stephen King is a pretty good pick too – The leg chopping scene is permanently engraved into my memory. The way the MC begins to plead and then quickly turns to screaming is phenomenal.
So … yea. I'd love to know your suggestions.
