Hello, I am currently in training to start my volunteering at a suicide hotline and I was wondering if anyone could suggest books to supplement my training. I guess I am looking for good books on active listening, how to handle high stake conversations, how to ask the right questions, understanding autonomy of the callers and letting go of being responsible for their actions, dealing with potential abuse etc.
I understand I might be asking for quite a bit so apologies for that. Any books that hit on one or more of these topics would really be appreciated, thank you :\^) .

Kathryn Mannix has a book called Listen – which I found wonderful.
Marshall Rosenberg has Non-Violent Communication – which is interesting but I think probably needs some updating.
I think there are books about therapeutic communication out there for therapists.
There are different approaches to suicide prevention. I don’t know much about that specifically but I do know that you have to know for a suicide hot line. It’s a great job/volunteer job – so make sure you also have some self-care stuff and I hope a supportive organisational structure to work in. (I lost a sibling to suicide so I appreciate this work a LOT.) Wishing you the best.
