Standalone medieval book?

Looking for some books that are good for getting into medieval historical fiction. I always like films / series of this era so would like to give some books a try. Preferably set in or about medieval England / Britain.

I’d ideally like a couple of standalones (or books which can be read as standalone) to get me started and see how I get on.
