This might be too vague but I’m looking for books that might give me the same shivery feeling as reading about the cosmic horror elements in the edges of the lore of GRRM’s A Song of Ice & Fire.

ASoIaF is mostly a political medical fantasy story, but Martin adds in all these little details in the lore and history that hint towards a more cosmic horror vibe, old dark gods, ancient empty cities of black stone that predate all modern civilizations, an entire southern jungle continent that a dragon rider flew over for two years but could not find the end of, shadow demons and ancient blood magic. The entire sequence of Princess Aerea’s death in Fire & Blood. That feeling of incomprehensible horrors just outside of the deep normality of the very ordinary warring and politics.

I really enjoyed reading all of those elements, truly sent a shiver down my spine in a good way. I was wondering if anyone had any recommendations of books (especially more recent ones) that touched on similar themes? I’ve already read a lot of Lovecraft, who Martin clearly pulls from as inspiration for a lot of his cosmic horror, so I’m looking for something maybe a bit more contemporary.
