What's a fiction book you've read which awfully hits home, like it seems that it isn't really fiction and actually a representation of the world around us.
Personally I would say that form me it's 1984 by Orwell. Although I know it was about what the world look like in about 40 years, it closely resembles our world in some aspects.

i always loved the life as we knew it series as a kid. it’s a post apocalyptic about the moon falling out of orbit
The Tom Clancy Jack Ryan books. Add to that the Red Storm Rising pre-jack book as well.
Parable of the Sower by Octavia Butler without a doubt
Totally agree with you on 1984, feels all too real now.
Another I’d recommend is Seveneves. It’s about how the earth would react to a dramatic change in circumstance.
Last night at the lobster by Stewart O’Nan. if you’ve ever worked in a restaurant, you‘ll recognize everything about it.
