I love fantasy books. Absolutely adore them, but I'm having some issues figuring out what to read. I've read a lot of different series, and have gotten to where I pretty much just cycle through about 6 different authors.
I really don't want romance to be the main plot of the book. It's fine if it's a subplot, but not the main point.
My main authors that I've been cycling through:
Patricia Briggs (Mercy Thompson series/Alpha and Omega)
Anne Bishop (several series by her)
Jacqueline Carey (Kuushiel)
Matt Dinniman (DCC)
Mercedes Lackey (500 Kingdoms is favorite, although I've read other titles)
Orson Scott Card (Ender and Bean)
My main issue is I'm not a huge fan of grim-dark (I say as I'm waiting for book 7 of DCC) and a lot of what I'm finding is either fantasy romance or just depressing with the gray endings. I would like a happy ending, at least happy enough that I can actually acknowledge that things were overall better or would be getting better at the end.
I have started the First Law series, and no. I've read the Witcher.

*The Thief of Always* by Clive Barker
*The Books of Swords* by Fred Saberhagen
You might like The Goblin Emperor by Katherine Addison, as well as the spinoff trilogy, The Cemeteries of Amalo!
Have you tried more litrpg/progression fantasy besides DCC?
