I’m laid up for a couple of days and am just not lured in by any of the books on my to-read shelves atm. Looking for smth hopefully on the newer side, but am open to genre as long as it’s engaging as hell. I like horror, thrillers, apocalyptic fiction, historical fiction, romance (pref queer but fine if not), character studies, biographies, nonfiction…pretty much anything. *Dislike things that are excessively gory, or things that tend to be described as fever dream-esque.*

Bonus points if on KU lol.

    Thanks in advance!

Piranesi by Susanna Clarke was highly engaging for me. It came out a couple of years ago and it’s pretty short. It’s fantasy (though not traditional high fantasy like LotR or anything) but I’m not normally a fantasy person and I still found it really enjoyable to the point that it’s like… one of my top 3 books I’ve read this year. It’s about a man living in a seemingly infinite stone house in an alternate universe with no knowledge of who he is or how he got there.
