As much as I adored the novel, i felt like the last few scenes of the book really came out of nowhere, without much of an explanation. Specifically, Henry’s suicide. I’m inclined to interpret it as him choosing an “ aesthetic” way out, rather than doing it to save his friends or become a martyr. I think he is far too selfish for that. Rather, I think he knew his life in his fantasy world was coming to an end, and saw this as the only alternative to being forced to live in the modern world. The departure of Julian, the dissolution of the Greek program, and the shattering of the groups bond made it clear that things would never be the same again, and their sanctuary away from the modern world was gone. Curious as to others views on his motive, or just the ending in general! The closing scene with Henry pointing out that Richard isn’t happy either struck such a chord in me.
