Can someone suggest a book that talks about the spouses of high achievers. There are a lot of books from their perspective but I get a feeling that their spouses have a different story to tell.
It’s an old book at this point, but Significant Others: Creativity and Intimate Partnerships tackled just this and did a great job. It looked at mainly artist and writers like Diego Rivera and Frida Kahlo or Dasheille Hammet and Lillian Hellman. It even included Gay couples. I would think this is foundational in what ever came after.
More currently Wifedom, about George Orwell wife is supposed to be excellent, and recently much has come out about Edward Hopper’s wife and her sublimating her own art and life in advancement of his. I think that was done primarily through an exhibit that had a catalog.
Of course Jackson Pollock and Lee Krasner are the poster children of this topic and volumes have been written about them.
