I just finished reading Shogun by James Clavell, and I absolutely loved it!
I think my favorite part of the story was that there were almost no one-dimensional characters. They were complex people with so much going on beneath the surface.
Watching Blackthorne learn his way in a new culture was also fascinating. And watching his relationship with Mariko blossom while his ties to his shipmates fell apart really drew me in.
Finally, there was all of the politics and the scheming! I would read an entire book that was just Toranaga’s internal monologue and how he sees the chess board.
Are the other books in the series as good? And does the show measure up to the book?
