Looking for books about exploring a portal network. Not exactly a “portal” network, but the human response to finding the Gateway station in Frederik Pohl’s Gateway series fits exactly.

Alternities by Michael P. Kube-McDowell also has kind of what I'm looking for in that it has alternate universes hooked up by a maze and there are crackers who map out the paths.

Any books about the people mapping out the pathways?
